The holiday season may have just begun, but I’ve already given myself a little present – a ticket to Flour and Flower, a baking and floral arranging workshop put on by Jacin of Lovely Little Details and John of Culinary Eye Catering. If you’re in the San Francisco area, don’t miss their December 18th event! We had an incredibly fun evening at Firehouse 8, which started with a hands-on tutorial to create John’s famous scones, before Jacin let us loose on her selection of flowers and greenery to create our own centerpieces.
A ticket to the second workshop of the season would make the perfect gift for the crafty hostess in your life, a fun night out with mom or friends, or simply a fab few hours with excellent food, wine, company, and flowers. I can’t wait to feature some of the step by step photos of the night shot by the fantastic Jessica Burke, but I simply couldn’t wait to share how much fun I had, so here’s a little photo study I did with the centerpiece I put together under Jacin’s tutelage. After a mouth-watering tutorial on making heavy cream scones led by Chef John (I made chocolate chip and brown sugar topped with peach jalapeño jam – let me tell you, they are killer), we got to play with the incredible array of flowers from the San Francisco Flower Mart.
Everyone pounced on the unbelievably lush garnet peonies as the focal point for their centerpiece, but there were so many options to add to them! I went with a palette of cream and gold to accent the vibrant peonies, along with plenty of greenery for texture. Sweet garden roses, carnations, and my new obsession, hellebore, added dimension to my peonies, along with silvery greens and indigo privet berries for contrast. I couldn’t resist playing with my design once I got it home, pairing the peach and burgundy flowers with a Kate tablecloth from Napa Valley Linens in Wedgwood blue.
Don’t miss the last Flour and Flower Workshop of the year! My fellow attendees and I were in seventh heaven picking out just the right flavors to add to our scones and creating our gorgeous arrangements. Ticket prices include all baking ingredients to make your own scones as well as the flowers, greenery, clippers, and vessel to make your own centerpiece.
So beautiful bouquets.
