Nicole Miller’s black and white designs from yesterday were anything but stark, but today I’m celebrating opulence and rich color with this board inspired by Zac Posen‘s latest collection. Zac’s designs celebrate the beauty in the feminine form and this is no collection is exception, but what really struck me were the incredible metallic patterns that he worked into several of his gowns. The richness of the pattern evokes the elegant luxury of Versailles, but the relatively simple silhouettes stripped away much of the frills and frippery of the Court of the Sun King and let the pattern itself shine.
This was the perfect chance to play with metallics – the plush gold brocade on the dress, the antique silver tray, the embossed wedding cake (consider me in love) and pair them with rich, jewel tones. Zac sent out several dresses in one of my favorite colors – garnet – so it was an easy pick for inspiration! While his dresses wouldn’t look out of place in the most formal of ballrooms, I love how easily this design scheme can translate to the old world romance of a vineyard.
