Vintage glamour, California chic, and Australian style came together in the perfect blend for Kyla and Zach’s wedding day in Paso Robles! The skies over Hammersky Vineyards had been weeping rain when Zach surprised Kyla with a romantic proposal during a trip to the winery, but sunshine reigned on their gorgeous summer wedding day! SLOtography and Carol Yeamen Sanchez helped this stunning international couple bring their ideal wedding day to life, with plenty of design inspiration from the bride!
Although Zach originally hailed from Australia and Kyla grew up in the Bay Area, only half a world separated these two when they first met – the couple caught each other’s eye while Zach was in town from New York, and several dates and a few months later, they started their life together in San Francisco. Hammersky Vineyards was a natural choice for their wedding venue after playing such an important role in the proposal, but the natural beauty of the venue and the elegance of the white barn spoke to their individual heritages. They blended earthy elements like greenery and wood with vintage glam, like the bride’s sequin Blush by Hayley Paige West wedding dress from Bay Area boutique, Haute Bride. She wore her long red mermaid hair in loose waves reminiscent of Old Hollywood and added a nod to her Australian groom with a bouquet of native flowers including silver dollar eucalyptus, lambs ear, white garden roses, and ranunculus as well as jasmine, white veronica, and blushing bride proteas. Her bridesmaids wore individual maxi dresses in summery shades of blue with elegant white floral and greenery bouquets. Zach kept things classic in a black tuxedo from Hugo Boss!
The natural beauty of the vineyard provided a simple and stunning backdrop for the sentimental vows they wrote to each other. They sealed handwritten love letters in a wooden box with a bottle of Hammersky wine – to be opened during their first argument or anniversary- whichever came first! The ceremony and reception were emotional as they honored the Bride’s father who tragically passed away on the same date eighteen years earlier. The Bride chose to walk down the aisle by herself, but included a photo charm of her father from the day of his wedding on her bridal bouquet as a way of keeping him close. Lounge areas dotting the grounds welcomed guests after the ceremony while the couple took portraits in the sun drenched vineyards and against the picturesque white barn. Bistro lights hung over the long farm tables set for their intimate wine country wedding, with garlands of silver dollar eucalyptus and modern geometric decor accenting the charcoal stoneware plates, rose gold flatware and vintage grey glass goblets.
After a dinner of local and organic cuisine from Haute Catering, guests indulged in a modern grey marbled cake adorned with fresh local flowers. The Bride and Groom also had another fun surprise for their guests – they had arranged for Negranti’s Ice Cream Truck truck to serve specialty ice cream throughout the night while guests danced and enjoyed the scenery. A few months before the wedding, the Bride and Groom met with Alexis Negranti to create unique flavors to honor their countries of origin. The groom created Tim Tam Coffee Crunch to honor his Australian family and friends while the bride chose Brown Butter Sugar with Jameson Whiskey to honor her Irish roots. They also chose a vegan Meyer Lemon and Basil sorbet dedicated to the Mother of the Bride, who is known to grow delicious organic Meyer Lemons in her Santa Cruz backyard.
Personal touches made their wedding day truly unforgettable, from the foodie-inspired menu of local and sustainable dishes to welcome their out of town guests, welcome baskets from General Store Paso Robles in each hotel room, and wooden spoon favors hand crafted in Kenya from The Little Market. Their escort card wall made for both a labor of love and a dramatic centerpiece to the reception, combining a 7ft tall wooden backdrop made by the groom, and adorned with grey and cream escort cards with copper wax seals the bride designed with their calligrapher. To keep things light and fun, they also added rose gold die-cut lettering saying “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” from the Bride’s favorite movie- the Lion King! The couple’s beloved golden retriever, Lucca, was on hand to share in the joy as they became a family!
