It’s no secret that fall is my favorite season, and today’s traditional autumn wedding from Bit of Ivory Photography has every single thing that I love about the season! Kate and Joe are Hampton Roads natives, the area of Virginia that Chelsea of Bit of Ivory lovingly documents in her regional blog, Tidewater and Tulle. They chose to celebrate their wedding in Phoenix, Maryland, for its deep family ties – and the absolutely stunning fall foliage didn’t hurt! Out of town guests were greeted at the start of their wedding weekend with local Maryland treats and nearby activities to take in the splendid autumn beauty. The rolling hills of Maryland were decked out in their autumnal best, and the brilliant colors inspired the color palette of rich orange and eggplant.
At the heart of it, their wedding was a celebration of their families coming together, especially the history of military service that they both share. Joe is a proud Marine, while Kate’s family has ties to the US Navy. Kate’s classic sweetheart gown was touchingly accented with an heirloom necklace that had been a gift to her grandmother on her sixteenth birthday. Joe looked every inch the officer and gentleman in his dress uniform – their ring bearer even carried his dress hat down the aisle instead of a ring pillow! After their heartfelt ceremony at the Catholic Community of St. Francis Xavier, the couple exited the chapel to a traditional saber arch by Joe’s fellow Marines. Their reception at the Hunt Valley Country Club continued the celebration, with wedding portraits of generations past to greet guests as they arrived. Their loved ones left a polaroid and personal note in place of a guest book, helping them carry on their tradition! They found their seats with adorable pumpkin patch inspired escort cards, beautifully complementing the peach and orange centerpieces and pumpkin table numbers that adorned each dining table.
