Take us back to 2019 – life was a little more when Shawn and Charlie planned their rustic charm Vermont wedding! The couple chose The Brick House in Shelburne, VT, near the bride’s childhood home. She grew up visiting the historic farmland, and memories of the area’s beauty inspired the tone for their wedding day! They worked with local vendors, Rodeo & Co. Photography and Harlow & Dahlia Events to help plan from across the country where they had settled in San Francisco, with Let’s Pretend Catering providing the perfect farm to table menu to allow their guests to experience the local touches in their cuisine!
Shawn accented her beautiful Pronovias lace fit and flare dress with a bouquet In Full Bloom designed with in-season white flowers and locally foraged greenery. The bride’s family had always gone to the Shelburne florist for family occasions, so they were Shawn’s number one pick for her wedding flowers! The lush arrangement was a gorgeous complement to the early fall fields that spread out beyond their wedding venue, creating the perfect rustic charm Vermont atmosphere throughout their day!
It was important to the couple to choose wedding colors that reflected their personalities and their venue, tying everything together. They chose a sophisticated palette that paired well with the rustic charm Vermont touches that they had chosen. Dove gray bridesmaid dresses from Dessy in individual silhouettes played off their greenery and white flower bouquets for the perfect look!
My favorite parts of the day were marrying my best friend, and enjoying the day with our most loved ones. One of our closest friends officiated our ceremony and to be able to spend our most special day with our most loved people is the best day we could have asked for.
Shawn, the bride
The couple met on their first day of grad school at University of Michigan! Their love story came full circle shortly after graduating, when he proposed on a trip to a lake house in Canada. After popping the question on the dock – and receiving an enthusiastic YES, he surprised his bride-to-be with a carefully planned ‘graduation party’ that turned out to be a celebration of their engagement!
The important point to us while planning was for our wedding to feel authentic to our love story and to our roots. We incorporated pieces of Vermont, pieces of our history at the University of Michigan such as M & M’s with the UMichigan logo in our guest’s welcome bags!
We wanted every piece of our wedding to feel meaningful to us, family and friends.
What could be better than a champagne glass seating chart? Guests were treated to a glass of bubbly and found their place in the tented reception with this clever cocktail hour two-for-one!

The couple had a rustic bar sign made with their specialty cocktails, announcing that Love is Intoxicating! They served a reposado cocktail with ginger, honey, lemon, and a mexcal floater, and a perfectly Vermont beverage with an apple cider bellini! The combination of cider, prosecco, rosemary simple syrup, and fresh seasonal garnish brought the amazing flavors of the bride’s home state into their reception.
Their wedding cake by Sweet Simone’s showcased their rustic charm Vermont style with white buttercream tiers topped with olive branches and white roses.
