When the bride and groom’s priorities are romantic fall wedding colors, a pizza truck, local beer, and as many quotes from The Office as they can fit, you know their wedding day is going to be a good time! Karen and Michael envisioned a relaxed yet elegant wedding day for their late summer day at The Maples near Sacramento, and turned to Hailey Ayson Photography and Joyeux Events to help them bring it all together! They felt every minute of their planning was worth it when their team took every detail and gave them the perfect day to celebrate with their friends and family!
How amazing is this romantic fall wedding color palette! Karen and Michael wanted to stick to soft colors that represented the season, so Florals by Alana Marie created their flower arrangements with orange, coral, peach, yellow, and touches of soft blue. The result are these amazing sunset-inspired bouquets and boutonnieres!
Bride Karen let her bridesmaids pick their own dress in shades ranging from blush to mauve to create a beautiful array of colors for her bridal party! She loved that her Mikaella Bridal wedding dress had a champagne lining to soften the white lace and tulle of the A-line gown.
Their Personal Touches –
Both of Karen’s “something borrowed” and “something blue” were family heirlooms that we added to the bouquet. These included a tiny blue butterfly pin in memory of Karen’s Grandma and a string of pearls that were Michael’s Oma’s.
We also displayed our parents’ wedding photos at the welcome table, which is a family tradition.
The groom is a triplet and he and his brothers were born on September 21. A family tradition is to play Earth, Wind and Fire’s “September,” which everyone got down to on the dance floor.
Groom Michael had a bespoke suit from Indochino made in a rich navy blue and added a flower patterned pocket square!
The bride accented her braided half-up hairstyle with a flower headpiece that tied the amazing colors of her wedding together!
The couple shared a First Look on the grounds of The Maples Woodland – the country estate outside Sacramento offered large private grounds for their wedding from start to finish!
How They Met –
We met in 2011 while both working at Banana Republic in San Francisco. Karen was new to the job and Michael was supposed to help train her. When they were first introduced, Michael was folding pants and said, “I’m not proud of this, but I’m really good at folding pants.” Infatuation set in immediately and we soon went on our first date, meeting at the Christmas tree in Union Square. From San Francisco to Santa Barbara and now back to the Bay Area, we have been having fun ever since!
How They Got Engaged –
Michael popped the question one Friday evening overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge while we were hiking in the Marin Headlands. Karen had an inkling that the proposal might be coming, however she was completely shocked when they went to a champagne bar to celebrate and their friends were there waiting. Michael had planned a surprise engagement party!
The couple chose a large Chinese Pistache on the grounds of The Maples for their ceremony. They kept the decor simple and let the tree and the natural beauty surrounding them serve as the main point of view. To keep their ceremony personal, they asked the groom’s uncle to marry them, and a bridesmaid to read a custom poem, ‘When Tomorrow Comes’ that had been written for the two of them.
The couple opted for simple yet elegant country style for their reception, with a striped seating chart draped in olive branches and tables decorated with fall leaves and flowers. They stuck to their soft romantic fall wedding colors for the centerpieces and their planner and florist even used the ceremony flowers for their Sweetheart Table decor!
A blue silk table runner added to the palette of coral, yellow, and burnt orange fall leaves and fruit for their Sweetheart Table, while the guest tables were decorated with long runners of magnolia and olive leaves. They added blue and white striped napkins and gold flatware to create a beautiful yet simple tablescape!
The couple chose a rustic farmhouse table for their Sweetheart Table, adding their ceremony flowers and gold lanterns to give it a colorful pop.
Guests enjoyed wood-fired pizza from Bella Familia and an array of desserts from Zest Fresh Pastry including mini cupcakes, cookie sandwiches, mini pecan pies and strawberry cheesecake bites. They used a letter board to include one of their favorite quotes from The Office, “Webster’s dictionary defines wedding as the fusing of two metals with a hot torch.” – Michael Scott
They made sure to set up a coffee station so guests could load up on caffeine before the dancing started! The dance floor and lighted signs they splurged on were a must for their reception, along with Switched ON Audio to keep the party going!
Everyone sang along to their first dance, “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley. Then Karen and her dad tore up the dance floor to “Brown Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison and Michael and his mom had a special moment dancing to “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts.
