Modern Winery Wedding in Moody Burgundy and Black

Yasmina and Jonathan’s modern winery wedding along the river in Washington DC brought a chic spin on Valentine’s Day romance! The couple opted to bring their own sophisticated style to a February 14th wedding, choosing moody burgundy and black colors that suited the rustic industrial winery and their black tie glamour to perfection! Their wedding day team of Emily Blumberg Photography, District Winery, and Rocking Bird Flower Co made sure their celebration was the perfect mix of stylish and fun!

Extra, extra, read all about it! The couple had custom newspaper ceremony programs made with articles about their relationship and wedding ceremony – they fit the stylish black and white color scheme and heart shaped confetti added a playful detail!

They covered the couple meeting at Coastal Carolina University as underclassmen and their first date at a Sorority formal. Their surprise Paris proposal netted its own column, covering how Jonathan flew to France while Yasmina was on a work trip and popped the question while sightseeing! Beautiful photos of their engagement on Pont Alexander III, with views of the Eiffel Tower and the Seine River, made the front page!

They chose Valentine’s Day for their wedding date, but wanted to steer away from a traditional red and white holiday color scheme. Instead, Yasmina worked with their florist Rocking Bird Flower Co to create a moody burgundy palette with the bouquets and other wedding flowers. They used roses, ranunculus, hellebore, and scabiosa to add merlot and garnet tones to the bouquet, with blush accents to warm it up and blue thistle to create a wintery bouquet. The inky blue ribbons tying her bouquet added long splashes of color down the front of Yasmina’s structured but simple crepe wedding dress.

When your bride looks exactly like Wonder Woman, the groom needs his own super hero touch, too! These Batman socks were a fun way for Jonathan to give his groomsmen a personal touch while still keeping their black tie style looking sharp! Making sure they had the perfect trouser break kept their secret identities intact while adding a playful detail to this chic wedding!

The couple chose District Winery in DC’s Navy Yard for their ceremony and reception venue – not only was it beautiful, but of all the venues they looked it, it checked every box for ambiance, service, staff, and location! They held their first look on the Anacostia River, with magical winter light captured by Emily Blumberg Photography.

The couple embraced the winter vibes and Valentine’s Day festivities with their bridal party in all black! Long black dresses for the bridesmaids kept them chic and matching shawls kept them cozy against the February weather.

Although she opted for a clean and simple dress from Lovely Bride, Yasmina decided to add a long cathedral length veil with lace. The romantic patterns added a beautiful detail to her minimalist bridal gown with beautifully structured lines.

They held their wedding indoors, using the rustic industrial style of the winery as inspiration for the simple decor. Bistro lights overhead and wine barrels provided by the venue created the perfect altar decor for their indoor wedding ceremony. A bouquet of her grandmother’s favorite white tulips marked a chair on the front row in honor of lost loved ones.

They held a wine box ceremony during their vows, sealing off a custom box with bottles to toast their tenth wedding anniversary!

The venue’s long walnut dining tables were set with strands of greenery and burgundy and blush flowers in bud vases. Candles and agate geode slice place cards added to the beautiful details that personalized their winery wedding reception! The room was filled with the cozy glow of candles and string lights overhead, with moody burgundy touches that spoke to their vision of sophisticated romance.

Buttercream Bakeshop created their elderberry Cake with vanilla buttercream icing – the white wedding cake was toped with fresh flowers to match the beautiful details throughout the reception!

The couple got personal with their reception celebration, adding a photo booth for guests to enjoy, along with a creative cookbook guest book that invited family and friends to leave recipes for the newlyweds to cook together. Custom cookie favors were their ‘something blue’ as well as a nod to their dog, Blue!
