Modern Christmas wedding ideas
What could be more perfect for a modern Christmas wedding than emerald accessories! Emily’s gorgeous halo engagement ring featured an emerald center stone so it makes perfect sense that she would choose that rich green for her other accessories! She chose gold and emerald Swarovski crystal ear crawlers to add a glamorous and modern pop to her stunning winter bridal look!
How they got engaged –
I came home from work one Friday afternoon to Matt who had broken into my loft and decorated the entire place with candles and flowers! He knows how close I am to my family, but he wanted the proposal to be just us! He told me he was taking me out to spend the evening with friends, but instead he took me to my parents house for a surprise dinner! He flew my grandparents in from North Carolina, sister in from New York, brother in from over seas, and also had his parents fly in from Chicago to surprise me! Perfect weekend with all my favorite humans!
Emily said that her Alexandra Grecco with a simple long sleeve silhouette and pearl illusion made her feel like a superhero! The delicacy and flowing lines of the silk chiffon dress felt like a perfect fit for her bridal vision and added a wintery elegance to her beautiful look.
One of the dominant hues that the couple picked for their modern Christmas wedding also happened to be the bride’s favorite color – black! She asked her bridesmaids to pick a formal black gown in their own style to fit her vision of a ‘sexy, moody winter wedding’! Velvet added a luxe touch and even the flower girl wore a black tulle dress!
The couple celebrated their modern Christmas wedding at Barnsley Resort, an idyllic retreat north of Atlanta, GA. The enormous grounds and gardens afforded them a stunning space for their photos with Evan and Jenna Creative, allowing them to capture dozens of different memories without leaving the property.
The couple worked with iconic Amy Osaba Design and designer Mary Wynn for their wedding florals! She took their moody and romantic palette and interpreted it into free-flowing bouquets in jewel tones of emerald and burgundy, with winter greenery and charcoal gray velvet ribbons trailing from the hand-tied stems.
One of the perks of a winter wedding? The venue is all dressed up for the holidays! The charming Town Hall at the resort gave them the perfect white barn venue for their ceremony, complete with gorgeous garlands, wreaths, and icicle lights on all the eaves.
This utterly gorgeous white barn ceremony venue has the look of an intimate Alpine chapel, sweeping their guests away from Northern Georgia for this romantic winter ceremony.
On their special family tradition –
Instead of growing up watching Disney movies – my family grew up watching Braveheart! We all love that movie, especially my dad! My sister and I both chose to walk down the aisle to “For the Love of a Princess” from the Braveheart soundtrack at each of our weddings with my dad! It was a surprise to my dad both times!
They had their wedding reception in the manor house ruins on the resort grounds. The 19th century Ruins were covered in white lights, instantly bringing to mind the romantic setting of Ross and Emily’s wedding in England (although this one ended much, much happier)! The preserved ruins offer such a unique space for wedding photos, with the historic brick walls and antique fireplaces intact. It adds a sense of history and a creative space for an adventurous wedding! The space was beautifully decorated for Christmas, with traditional red and gold-decked trees and greenery garlands hung around the doorways.
The historic brick walls, arched windows, and timelessness of the ruins gave the impression guests had entered another world! Emily sourced antique bottles for their botanical seating chart to add to the vintage feel of the reception space.
For the reception design in the covered pavilion, the bride and groom chose to embrace their love of luxe details and upgrade the rentals! They chose dusky gray table cloths, with embellished velvet linens for the round tables and silky chiffon runners for the long farm tables.
Although she incorporated lots of shiny gold elements, Emily’s vision for her modern Christmas wedding involved less red and green and more matte black! She paired the dusky gray velvet tablecloths with matte black ceramic plates and gold flatware for a dramatic detail at each place setting.
Winter foliage chandeliers hung from the barn rafters over long farm tables, while black taper candles and amber glassware added a warm glow to the table. Vintage vases and glass bottles held garnet and peach flowers for the centerpieces.
Desserts from Gigi’s Cupcakes included mini desserts in strawberry, Wedding Cake, and caramel!
Emily changed into a pale blue ruffled dress to dance in and let her natural curls down for a fun and fabulous evening reception look!
