I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that today’s snowy winter wedding from Anastasia Photography is just flat out, jaw dropping gorgeous. It’s not just the radiant bride with her stunning bouffant updo, vintage jewels, and classically elegant gown, or the naturally stunning setting in the middle of the winter woods in British Columbia. It’s not even the ceremony in the round under the lodge’s peaked ceiling, surrounded by birch stump seats and flickering candles – although none of those hurt, that’s for sure. The true beauty of this wedding came from the couple’s wonderful focus on their friends and family, and how incredibly happy they look in every shot!
Kelsey and James tied the knot in a beautifully intimate ceremony at the Squamish Lil’Wat Cultural Center, a wonderfully unexpected venue that proved to be utterly romantic. They held their first look on a timber bridge over the icy river, before venturing into the snowy forest. I think’s it’s fair to say that such a rustic setting has never seen such a glamorous bridal party – the groomsmen look born for black tie, while the bridesmaids shimmering in beaded vintage cocktail dresses (and Ugg boots)! After their mountain chic ceremony, guests gathered in the galleries at the Cultural Center for cocktail hour, before enjoying dinner in small bites at family style farm tables. The soaring ceilings and strands of twinkling lights were accented by simple wooden tables and candles flickering in mercury votives.
I’ll let the gorgeous bride tell the rest – from the radiantly happy Kelsey –
“Jimmy and I are both incredibly social people with tight family bonds and long-time friendships. When it came time to make decisions on where to host our big day, Whistler Village felt like the perfect place that would allow for quality time with our favorite people even in the thick of hosting a wedding. We really treasure the amazing sense of community the village naturally creates, and anytime we went anywhere we ran into our guests. We saw friends and family while tubing at the tube park, on our many trips to Purebread bakery (reason enough to visit Whistler) and while drinking beers at apres-ski. It didn’t hurt that for most of our loved ones it was an excuse for a mini-vacation from nearby Seattle to one of the most beautiful snow-capped mountain backdrops the world has to offer.
This same feeling of community was important for us to create at the wedding. There definitely wasn’t a theme but more a vision to have it feel like we were having everyone over for a family style dinner with lots of great candlelight and rustic yummy bites. Little touches like our guests standing in a close circle around us for the ceremony, oysters on the half-shell during cocktail hour, and cafe lights strung behind the head table made it just that much more special. Oh and did I mention THE best dance party of all time?! Yeah, sorry other weddings, we own that title now.”
