Love is not cancelled – that was the mantra of Alba Dahlia Floral when one of their couples postponed their Spring 2020 wedding due to the early days of COVID-19. Like the rest of us, the bride and groom weren’t quite sure what we were in for at that point, but they chose to hold off on a large gathering until it was safe for guests to travel and celebrate together. It’s the wisest choice while infection rates continue to soar, but cancelling and even postponing weddings has been difficult for the small business community that makes up wedding professionals.
Making the most of a postponed wedding
Rather than letting the beautiful fresh flowers already on hand for the postponed wedding go to waste, Olive Bee Photography and Southern Housewives collaborated with the floral team to pull together a last-minute shoot at Urban Fire House – less than a week before Dallas Forth-Worth area wedding venues would close completely.
The result is a moody bohemian blueprint for a micro-wedding with stunning style – rich colors in indigo blue, plum, and smoky quartz; lush arrangement of fresh flowers and dried gasses mingling with lit taper candles; and a stunning couple who understand the most important part of a wedding day is being with each other.
There’s no doubt that COVID-19 has had a profound effect on our lives, health, and businesses. As a wedding professional and a bride-to-be who booked my spring 2021 date and venue before we truly understood what was happening with the pandemic, it’s important to be reminded that ‘love is not cancelled’, even if a large gathering isn’t currently feasible. Rather than stressing about my big day, my goal has been to use this platform to continue bolstering the small businesses who have been impacted the most by cancelled events – and hoping to to encourage couples to postpone, work with their wedding team, and find a balance to help us all get through this.
This shoot is a beautiful reminder of the event pros that go into making a wedding day run smoothly and look beautiful, from the rich and moody portraits by Olive Bee Photography, the exquisite planning of Southern Housewives, the stunning bohemian florals, the hair and makeup team of Jennifer Serra who safely gave the bride a portrait-ready look, and so many more! Each aspect of a carefully styled and orchestrated wedding showcases a small business owner who is trying to keep their team afloat as we navigate COVID weddings.
Urban Fire House offered their rustic industrial venue at the last minute, with concrete floors and floor to ceiling windows offering a stunning canvas for this event. The team created a statement ceremony location with black pillars, iron candlesticks, and stunning arrangements of pampas grass, dried palm fronds, cappuccino roses, eucalyptus, and purple hellebore to create a moody fall atmosphere!
A candlelight ceremony, luxe vintage lounge for portraits, and a stunning lace wedding dress all add up to an intimate and memorable micro-wedding look! The Texas bridal salon, Pence and Panache, has unfortunately had to permanently close their doors due to prolonged closure because of the pandemic. They’re offering their stock on PoshMark to help last minute weddings and elopements find bridesmaid dresses and accessories that are ready to ship.
Intimate parties and micro-weddings will likely be the reality for a long time, so this creative team designed a dinner celebration for six! The long white trestle table fit the Scandinavian style of the venue, with deep colors in charcoal, plum, and indigo blue to suit the moody bohemian style of the flowers.
Gold lace-patterned chargers added a metallic shine to the black-on-charcoal gray place settings, with matte black plates and silverware on a gray linen napkin. Smoky quartz stemless champagne flutes added to the deep tones, while the cobalt blue runner was scattered with deep purple flowers to add to the deep tones and contrast with the pale wood tabletop.
Moody cake lovers are sure to fall for this stunning dessert display! The Scandinavian-inspired table and pampas grass arrangement added light wood details to the intensely moody colors of the concrete floors, deep blue walls, and cake to match!
Wildflour Cakery used palette knife techniques to create a modern art inspired cake with dramatic black frosted details! The deep purple flowers as a cake topper added to the gorgeous impact of this stunning cake!
