Sarah and Mike didn’t let a little thing like an unexpected downpour ruin their long-awaited wedding day! Although Sarah had been dreaming of an autumn wedding in the Rockies, she could not have been sweeter about moving their ceremony indoors at the last minute when the rain started to fall. Even better, this stunning couple were game to step out into the rain for some gorgeous portraits with photographer Kiersta Rhodes!
Even though the day didn’t quite go off without a hitch, they had the benefit of a photographer game for anything in Kiersta, and the incredibly accommodating staff at the Vail Cascade Resort who scrambled to shift the ceremony inside when the first drops started to fall. They ensured that Sarah and Mike’s vision for their day stayed as true as possible, while making sure that their guests stayed happy and dry. While our couple took portraits under the resort’s beautiful hammered metal entrance and ventured out into the mountains, guests kept cozy by the covered fireside area. Although the guests weren’t able to enjoy the mountains up close, Sarah and Mike’s careful planning had already brought the natural beauty of the Rockies indoors – candles glowed on the tables in holders handmade by the bride’s father, and every guest left with a fir sapling as a favor! They kept the decor reminiscent of the Rockies in the fall, with abundant candles, river rocks, and fall leaves, along with the brilliant jewel-toned flowers by Petals & Pours. Although it may have been an unpleasant surprise at the time, I can’t help but swoon over the romantic portraits in the rain. Even better, many cultures believe that rain on your wedding day is a blessing on a couple’s marriage!
