I have an early Christmas present to share with all of you! My brand new Garden Spells inspiration is the first part of a new series based on the books of Sarah Addison Allen. Her latest, Lost Lake, will be released on January 21st and I’ll have one board a week leading up to the big release!
Garden Spells was Sarah’s first book, and my personal favorite. Sometimes books seem to find you right when you need them. I was finishing my Writing, Literature & Publishing degree, mired in writing workshops and my senior thesis, when I came across Garden Spells. It helped me recapture the joy to be found in writing, through the beautiful way that Sarah bent magical realism to tell a story about the legacy of generations past shaping the present. The fact that I love this book so much makes it all the more difficult to feel like I’m doing it justice – I wanted to capture the feeling of the enchanted garden that is so central to the story. I picked a color palette that reminded me of a rainwashed garden, along with the purple hues that Sarah uses to represent passion and emotions barely contained beneath the surface. Edible flowers play an enormous role in helping her characters realize those feelings, so any plants and flowers used have to be able to tell their own story.

Literally my dream wedding decor. I love, love, love this!
Thank you! It’s one of my favorite books – so glad you like it!
What an entrancing board! I’m intrigued enough to want to read the book. I have a bad habit of intentionally avoiding bestsellers, so I’ve never read any of Sarah’s books. However, I love magical realism done well.
How wonderful that you have a background in writing and publishing! We need to chat sometime!
I absolutely adore her books and I’m so excited for her latest! If you need a little holiday reading, Garden Spells is such a great place to start.
We should definitely chat – you have me intrigued!
