It’s hardly a secret that I love a little fairytale inspiration! Today’s feature is inspired by one of my life-long favorites, The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Anderson. I must not be the only once, since Disney is just about to release their latest movie, Frozen! I have no idea how close it will hew to the original story, but at least it looks gorgeous!
I wanted to stick a little closer to the classic version with this board – a palette of wintry white, ice blue, and hints of rich winter rose could not be more romantic or suited to a frozen wedding. In the story, intrepid village girl Gerda sets out to rescue her childhood friend, Kai, from the clutches of the Snow Queen, a beautiful but cold-hearted ruler of the realm of winter who has warped his heart and stolen him away. Gerda travels to the frozen north, inspired by the icy tundras of Anderson’s native Denmark. Traditional Scandinavian elements, such as a Krasekake (Danish cookie cake) or Nordic berries would add the perfect touch to a fairytale wedding inspired by Hans Christian Anderson. Roses are symbols of life and love in the story, making them the ideal flower for this design!

How beautiful, I can’t believe I happened upon this. My daughter loves the film Frozen so I was looking it up and then I noticed the cake you have on your board…my mum made it for the cover of cake Central! Fabulous inspiration. Hx
That is so funny! I absolutely fell in love with that cake – it was actually what I built the rest of the design around. I credited it to Cake Central but if your mother has a more direct site, I’d be happy to link to her as well – she’s incredibly talented!
This is beautiful – and if you love “The Snow Queen,” check out the book COLD SPELL by Jackson Pearce. It’s a modern retelling of the classic story (definitely NOT a Disney-fied version). It’s magnificent!
I will definitely have to check that out! Next on my list is A Winter’s Tale – it has been sitting on my shelf for years and its a shame!
