Fairy Tale Wedding in a Snowy Mountain Lodge from May Gunsul Photography

Today’s fairy tale wedding is not only enchanting, but it has some seriously sentimental value for me! Sara and Derek were married this January in a beautiful ceremony at Timberline Lodge in Oregon. They had gorgeously clear skies for their wedding, with the winter sun shining off of the snow crowning Mount Hood. This is a couple that truly believes in happily ever – Sara is an avid reader and runs the literary blog Novel Novice – so it’s fitting that their second date took place in a bookstore. Sara said it was on that bookstore date that she first knew Derek was “the one”. Years later he took her back to that same bookstore to propose!

Sara and I bonded in the very early days of Hey Wedding Lady, back when I was just a wedding coordinator with a Tumblr! We both appreciated weddings, books, and my utter nerd-themed inspiration boards for Sherlock and Doctor Who, so I was excited when she asked me to create a board for her upcoming wedding! She wanted inspiration for their yellow and gray mountain wedding and pretty much described my ideal theme with their lodge venue and woodsy, fairy tale details! I think her board was my second request ever – definitely a bit of a throwback! I’m so glad that I was able to help them visualize their wedding in any small way but after seeing their amazing photos it’s clear that so many incredible people helped make their day beautiful!

Sara’s mother created so many of the beautiful details of their day – from hand making Sara’s bridal bolero and veil, dying and embellishing her shoes, and sewing a heart made of the Father of the Bride’s flannel shirt into her gown for her ‘something blue’! The Maid of Honor, Brie Spangler, created the adorable illustration of Sara and Derek for their invitation and programs – not to mention the incredible personalized fairy tale drawings for each table! Her family company, Jag Forms, created all of the printed materials for the wedding, from their invitations to their programs. I even had another hand in the look of their big day – Sara was the winner of an anonymous giveaway I ran through the old blog, and walked down the aisle in a crystal and pearl necklace that I hand made for her!
