Like a lot of couples planning a wedding during COVID, Sara and Milo’s path to the altar was full of twists and turns. Their original venue cancelled at short notice before their wedding, causing the couple to scramble and figure out alternate plans for their big day. They had already discussed décor ideas with Rummage Girl Weddings who came to the rescue when they asked about alternate venues. She recommended a private estate in Bishop, California that ended up becoming the couples’ dream venue! Although they had a hard time envisioning the house as the setting for their wedding on their first visit, their decorator-turned-planner helped them see the potential before transforming the space for their big day!
Their choice of wedding location could not have been more perfect for a couple who loves to hike in the Sierra Nevada mountains together! After meeting in the most chaotic way imaginable – an ER nurse connecting with a fire fighter over patients he brought into the Emergency Room – the couple loved to escape into the mountains for their free time together.
Milo proposed during a backpacking trip to Yosemite! Once he won a lottery permit to hike Half Dome, the stars aligned for their perfect proposal. The couple made it to the top together, where Milo surprised Sara by wanting to post for photos together. After he handed a helpful hiker their phone, he got down on one knee and she said ‘OF COURSE!’
The couple chose to have a first look, showing off their gorgeous wedding day looks to each other! The bride wore a stunning fitted lace dress with long chiffon cape sleeves, with a pearl and gold hair vine in her long half-up hairstyle. Her groom was just as stylish, with a maroon velvet tux jacket and black bow tie!
The couple drew wedding day inspiration from the gorgeous colors of the Sierra Nevada mountains in the fall! With the vibrant yellow aspen leaves changing color for the seasons and creating a showy backdrop, Sara chose to use that vibrant shade for her bridesmaid dresses, allowing them to pick a yellow or amber slip dress. The silk and velvet dresses added a gorgeous splash of color to the rocky hills and mountains beyond!
The couple had a gorgeous clear day for their mountain wedding in Bishop, CA! The intimate outdoor ceremony was tucked into a picturesque valley beside the lake, with a stunning view of the changing fall colors on the peaks beyond. Their bohemian triangle ceremony arch added a beautiful detail while tying in the beautiful landscape as part of their backdrop!
Their intimate guest count joined the couple for an outdoor reception dinner under the golden aspen trees at the private venue. Rummage Girl Weddings arrange vintage lounge seating and long dining tables under the trees, with bistro lights overhead to make the scene even more cozy!
They set a woodland wedding reception with gorgeous long farm tables under the golden Aspen trees! Their guests were excited to gather outdoors after long months in quarantine so the party lasted long into the night! Instead of a traditional wedding cake, guests enjoyed individual pies and cookies to give them a sugar rush on the dance floor. Their party stayed nearby in rented RVs, making the weekend into their own personal mountain retreat!
At the end of the day, through all the ups and downs of planning a pandemic wedding, the couple felt that they had designed a wedding day that felt true to them as a couple, and that they had achieved their ultimate goal:
Stay true to what you want, and if plans fail or fall through, at the end of the day you get to marry your partner and that’s all that matters.
