Barn Chic Romance for a Midwestern Wedding

A romantic, tranquil Eden nestled in the verdant, heartland of Utica, Ohio, best describes The Rusty River Barn. This newly established wedding venue is the vision of owner, Kelleen S. Wellman. It was her greatest aspiration to create a blissful country wedding utopia for couples to declare their love and Kelleen has indeed succeeded in turning her dream into reality.

This Midwest property enchants you from the time you enter the Rusty River Barn’s wrought iron driveway gates. The barn, situated on top of a grassy hill, is a show stopper with its red plank siding and signature copper roof. The design elements provide the modish “rusty” notes to the River Barn. These bold features are striking, and immediately the tone is set to exude farm chic against an idyllic pastoral landscape. The gardens surrounding the barn possess an abundance of white hydrangeas, soft celery green fountain grasses, graceful River Birch trees and fragrant Cottage Roses which only intensifies the hypnotic magic of this agrarian world. It is heavenly countryside that is Pinterest worthy, but the interior of The Rusty River Barn would undoubtedly get the Joanna Gaines stamp of approval for its clean farmhouse design. The Rusty River Barn became the quintessential canvas for a dreamy romantic heartland wedding photo shoot.

An opulent, romantic alfresco farm wedding was the plan. The barn’s back patio allowed for breathtaking views of the picturesque Ohio farmland. Miles and miles of green soybean crops blanketed the rolling hills that eventually collided with the sunset’s horizon. A locally crafted farm table made from pine timber found on the property was the perfect foundation for the wedding tablescape. It set the stage for an official heartland wedding reception.

Soft blush pinks and creamy whites were chosen to amplify the theme of old-fashioned country romance for the china and linens. A flowy ivory chiffon table runner placed in the center of the Head Table emulated a low-lying cloud against the rustic wood of the table. The shabby chic table setting consisting of floral embossed china paired exquisitely with antique pink depression glassware and heirloom silver flatware. A ruffled pink linen napkin placed under the china solidified the charming effect. Simple hand-calligraphed place cards added a classic and elegant style to the place settings. The last element to complete the romantic heartland mood were the florals. The visually rich bouquet of dreamy and sophisticated florals were a step above the typical wildflowers used for country weddings. Selected from local nurseries in the Columbus area, the flowers for the centerpiece achieved a polished farm stand design with stems of BlackBerry leaves, Lisianthus, and Coriander.

The illusion of the outdoors meets the indoors was accomplished by placing the tablescape between two barn patio columns and decorating with soft sheer ivory chiffon curtains. The draperies embellished with greenery garlands nicely framed the tablescape and completed the dream-like design. Suspended over the entire patio were vintage Edison string lights for extra ambiance and soft lighting. A wine barrel placed in front of the picturesque views displayed the three-tiered wedding cake. It was covered in white fondant and adorned with hand-painted rose gold accents and flowers to match the centerpieces.

Our bride entered the fanciful scene in an awe-inspiring Hayley Paige bridal gown which added to the undeniable romantic allure in all the photos. The gown was the epitome of rustic chic with a floral lace sweetheart bodice and layered ball gown skirt. This dreamy romantic heartland wedding designed to be a feast for any country the eyes showcasing the youthful, glamorous, playful chic farm romance
