Sunset over the water inspired the dreamy design of Skylar and Richard’s waterfront wedding in Charleston, South Carolina! The lovely shades of coastal blue and white became their airy color scheme, for lush garden flowers lining the aisle to their heavenly ceremony floral arch, for custom watercolor painted details on their stationery and monogram, and for their tented wedding reception that was like stepping into a dream! Fine art photographers The Happy Bloom made sure each lovely memory was captured on film to treasure their wedding day, with Antonia Christianson Events and Petaloso ensuring each moment was picture perfect!
A Charleston Wedding Day in Coastal Blue and White
One of the reasons The Happy Bloom is one of my favorite photographers to feature is their stunning attention to detail! Every charming moment, from the couple’s watercolor invitation suite with their custom monogram by K Buck Studios, the bride’s couture accessories, and this magical ‘before the dress’ moment in Skylar’s bridal suite, all showcased the fine art magic of this lovely photographer.
Skylar started the day with her best girls in her bridal suite, sipping champagne, with her favorite music playing. She set the tone for the day, almost like stepping into a dream!
She held a ‘bridesmaid First Look’ with her wedding party, having them close their eyes after she put on her wedding dress for a grand reveal!
How she found her dream wedding dress and added a personal touch by customizing the dress with a removable overskirt and off the shoulder straps! –
As a very detail oriented person, I knew that finding a dress would be no easy feat. We made appointments at several bridal salons on the same day. I tried gown after gown as we traveled to each salon, but it wasn’t until we got to Lovely Bride Charleston at the very end of the day that I felt like the gowns matched my vision for myself and our wedding! Their gowns are enchanted, full of texture, non-traditional, and definitely fashion forward! You know a Lovely gown when you see it, and the beauty of it is—you don’t see them everywhere! I knew I wanted something unique that was off the shoulder that felt bridal, but I also wanted it to feel like a party when it was time for that. For the ceremony, I wore a beaded Louvienne mermaid gown, a textured lace skirt overlay with a cathedral length train made by Tara Lauren, and a statement cathedral length veil made by Untamed Petals! My incredible Mt. Pleasant tailor, Nadya, added removable off-the-shoulder straps that I wore for both the ceremony and beginning of the reception. It was pure magic as the dress transformed with the evening–going from a true bridal look during the ceremony to a more alluring look during our reception.
The couple wanted their day to feel lush and organic, with dreamy cloud-like flowers. Their design team of Antonia Christianson Events and florist Petaloso brought that vision to life with a waterfront wedding ceremony in dreamy coastal blue and white with fresh touches of greenery. A white flower arch waited at the altar, with lush aisle arrangements that made it look like they were walking through a garden. Rustic wooden chairs with cathedral-inspired cane backs finished off their stunning outside ceremony on the river!
Guests could fan themselves against the warm Charleston air with ceremony programs doubling as fans and illustrated with the couple’s watercolor monogram.
An airy white reception tent was transformed into a heavenly space to celebrate, with vintage crystal chandeliers and hanging candle globes by Stage Right Lighting. The soft coastal blue and white color scheme was interpreted in the flower runners of delphiniums, snapdragons, and snowbells that lined the tables.
The couple added neutral wooden details to their coastal blue and white decor with elegant farmhouse tables and cane back linen chairs for their cozy Sweetheart Table.
The dance floor ceiling was transformed into a gorgeous focal point for the reception, with hanging candles and cascades of white flowers. A lush green turf wall spotlighted their custom neon monogram sign!
Their coastal blue and gold wedding cake fit the watercolor theme, with a beautifully painted design with touches of shining gold.
However, the memory that takes the cake when I think of our big day is definitely is our first dance. We had the band play the instrumental portion of “Old Love Feels New” by Chris Young while a dear friend (and groomsman) sang the lyrics. For us, it was so special to dance together as The Polands for the very first time to a song we have been dancing to in our kitchen for years. Even more, having our best friend sing made it so much more personal!
The couple slipped away for a sunset photo session on the waterfront to capture some special memories together! After their last dance, they would jet off to enjoy newlywed bliss by boat!
