Looking for the perfect colors for a fall wedding? Kaleigh and Preston chose French Blue and rust orange, pairing perfectly with the white farmhouse with blue shutters at Old Lystra Inn. The couple prioritized their family heritage with sweet heirloom details and DIY décor, bringing in Southern traditions with their cake flavors and magnolia leaf garlands. Tierney Riggs Photography made sure to bring the richness of their fall wedding colors, mismatched velvet bridesmaid dresses, and family traditions to life in each photo!
The Perfect Colors for a Fall Wedding
The couple chose French Blue and burnt orange for their palette – the perfect sophisticated colors for a fall wedding! The white farmhouse and blue shutters of their sweet inn venue helped inspire the color scheme, and they added the rich hues to a white base for their table décor and their invitations! The stationery by If It’s Paper North Carolina included a custom crest with their initials and a watercolor illustration of Old Lystra Inn.
Kaleigh’s bridal style was beautifully classic, with the perfect A-line wedding dress to complement the historic venue where they had their ceremony and reception!
How gorgeous are these mismatched bridesmaid dresses in the perfect colors for a fall wedding! Kaleigh gave her bridesmaids a color palette of coral, blush, and cinnamon rose for their chiffon and velvet bridesmaid dresses, and they picked individual Jenny Yoo dress styles to suit their preferences and style.
The groom wore a navy blue suit with brown leather shoes – bringing in their colors and the bride happened to love the way he looked in navy as a bonus!
How they chose their historic wedding venue and date:
I have always know I wanted a fall wedding, my parents were married on the first weekend in November (Their 30th wedding anniversary was this year). They had such a beautiful day and weather, so I wanted to capitalize on that good luck and have my wedding on the first weekend in November too! I am a classic southern girl at heart and I really wanted that to be shown throughout our day! I love all the fall colors and everything about old, vintage charm but I also wanted timeless and a day I would love back on and change nothing because it would still be in style! Our venue the Old Lystra Inn is a historical venue in Chapel Hill, I fell in love with the story behind the house and its rich Chapel hill history! Being born and raised in Chapel Hill, it really meant a lot to me to have such a beautiful piece of history be apart of our special day!
How they made sure they had the perfect weather for their fall wedding –
One special tradition we did was actually a month before the wedding which was “Burying the Bourbon”. I am big on superstition and I reallllllyyyy didn’t want it rain on our wedding day so me and Preston buried a bottle of bourbon upside down at our venue exactly one month prior to the wedding. We did have the most beautiful weather and day, so I highly recommend!
Their adorable Flower Dog, Mollie Petunia, made a special appearance on their wedding day!
This couple really knows how to make family history a part of their love story! The classic 55 Bel Air car that made an appearance at their wedding wasn’t just any vintage getaway car – it was Preston’s Granny Shirley’s car! The gorgeous burgundy convertible played a special role in their proposal, making it an unforgettable part of their wedding day!
How he proposed –
posed. I was told we were going to a car show at Fort Fisher, NC and taking Preston’s Granny Shirley and her husband. She has the most beautiful 55 Bel Air, that I have always adored and Preston loves as well! All day on Saturday I missed little hints of what was going to happen that evening. Preston and his granny had a plan and when we pulled up in the most gorgeous vintage car in front of the waves crashing on the rocks at Fort Fisher, they were ready! Preston had instructed Shirley to take pictures and he had said to me that she wanted a picture of us in front of the car, I didn’t think anything of it and I love his granny Shirley so I would do anything for her! There as we were taking pictures, Preston handed me a piece of paper and said “you’re going to need this” it was list of people to invite to our wedding.
On their personal and handmade wedding details –
I had a lot of DIY and personal details at the wedding! To start with Preston made all the glass signs and a good friend of ours did the lettering which was super special! All of the place cards/leaves were handmade by me! One of my favorite details was the record guestbook that guests signed old vinyl records that were Preston’s mom and dads and now they are hanging in our bedroom! We also had a “Family Tree” which had wedding pictures from both sides of our families on it with a vintage seating area we was really cute!
How cute is this bar! The vintage white bar was decorated with a magnolia leaf garland and a Drink Local sign that doubled as a bottle opener!
Flowers were a big part of Kaleigh’s wedding day vision, and she worked with Pine State Flowers to dress their venue in the perfect colors for a fall wedding! Rust orange chrysanthemums, dahlias, and roses added an autumn flair to their rustic wood tables. Adding French blue and hammered copper to the tabletops, along with vintage amber goblets for water glasses, gave their tables a gorgeous fall color palette!
The couple chose A Cake Tray for their wedding cake to keep a family tradition! The baker made the cake for Kaleigh’s grandparents’ 50th anniversary, making them a special choice. With her parents’ 30th anniversary only days from their wedding date, she had a special cake made for them as well! They chose red velvet and chocolate pound cake for their Southern wedding cake flavors, with harvest spice for the parents’ anniversary cake!
