Colors and Flavors of the Southwest meet Modern Art Wedding Inspiration

Great Woodland Photography and Kryshana Madrid Wedding & Events took inspiration from the Land of Enchantment to crate this Southwest meets Modern Art wedding shoot! The unique and contemporary space at SITE Santa Fe created the perfect backdrop to the modern and minimalist style that they wanted to exemplify. The stunning event design brought in modern art elements along with Southwestern colors and flavors to create a unique wedding that is wholly New Mexico. In a nod to sustainable and eco-friendly practices, this team of independent, local artisans made sure to recycle or utilize the materials after the shoot!

Julia Walley of Letterpress Made provided the invitation suite and other paper goods. She incorporated design elements and colors of the Southwest so the paper goods took on a contemporary feel that reflect the clean lines and modern atmosphere of Site Santa Fe. Reigned in design evokes a meditative simplicity, but unexpected surprises are to be found – this suite included a unique tear-apart reply card where guests mail back just one half!

Melissa Paquin from Renegade Floral knocked it out of the park with her modern cascade bouquet! She incorporated creams, whites, local foliage, and pops of yellow in her floral arrangements. Yellow and gold were the true inspiration behind the flowers chosen for this shoot. They wanted something crisp, modern and bold to stand amongst the cool grey and white tones of the venue space. Unexpected white Japanese ferns, flowering eucalyptus and onsidium orchids were mixed along foraged aspen branches in the perfect transition from green to gold.

The bride’s look combined minimal and ethereal with a simple slip dress from BHLDN overlaid with a flowing chiffon cape! Hair stylist Madeline McCue added texture to the simple bridal look with an elaborate updo and Russian tulle birdcage veil, while makeup artist kept the makeup clean and earthy.

The groom’s look from Friar Tux mixed rich colors and a hint of print to off set the white and modern venue space! His cuff links from a local artisan featured Southwestern prints to mimic the bride’s jewelry pieces.

Local artist Isabel Hees showcased her beautiful fine art prints as the ceremony backdrop.  SITE Santa Fe is a mecca for local artistry so they were so excited to have this installation as the focal point of the design. Isabel’s handmade prints made for the the perfect combination of feminine and minimalistic for the ceremony decor. Renegade Floral honed in on the color blocking aspect of the shoot to add touches of flowers. She added a touch of earthiness into art space with terra cotta pottery and local Aspen leaves for the ceremony florals.

Great Woodland Photography made excellent use of the venue at SITE Santa Fe, capturing portraits against amazing modern art backdrops on a mixture of film and digital to play with light and texture on each medium. The shoot was a celebration of event artistry as much as it was more traditional art!

The reception was all about a play on colors textures, beginning with the escort cards Hello Jori hand lettered onto autumn leaves!

The mid-century reception table and chairs from Rust Vintage Rentals echoed the contemporary feel of the venue, with harvest colors of saffron, persimmon, ochre, and gold layered on the raw wood surface.

Stunning earthenware pieces from Whiskey and Clay added a pottery touch to the place settings that was perfectly Santa Fe, while wood and acrylic table numbers balanced modern and rustic styles.

For the cocktail and dessert reception on the sky terrace, Paloma Restaurant created an amazing menu celebrating Southwestern flavors. Handmade cocktails, a salsa bar, and dessert tempted guests underneath the New Mexico sky. Pastry Chef Owen Laurion ceated a featured dessert of Autumn lime tart, grapefruit meringue, candied chile dust, and blue corn tuile.  The restaurant specializes in local and seasonal cuisine to keep the focus on what is fresh and readily available.
